Notes

What we think is really important about Woojum™ is that it leaves it entirely up to you to decide who can look at your Timeline(s). You can restrict access to Invited Guests and other Timeline owners to whom you grant Links, or you can choose to make your Timeline(s) available to any member of the general public who goes to the Public Pages of this Website. The "Public Flag", as we call it, is what you need to set to make your Timeline(s) available to the general public.

You set the Public Flag at Timeline level, so if you have more than 1 Timeline in your Package you can make some of them Public and some of them not, just as you please.

When you start out, if you just want to set up Timeline(s) for a restricted audience you should choose a Silver or Gold Package. These Packages do not include any Public Flags. Alternatively, if you want to set up Timeline(s) for anybody to be able to see you should choose a Platinum or Titanium Package. These Packages include Public Flags.

If you start out with no Public Flags and change your mind later and decide you want to make 1 or more of your Private Timelines Public you can either Upgrade your Package or purchase however many Public Flags you need from our Extras Tariff.

Extras Tariff

All displayed prices are per annum and inclusive of VAT. If you purchase any Extras partway through your Subscription Year you will be charged on a pro-rata basis for that year and will only pay the full annual cost of those Extras the next time you renew your Package Subscription.

Cookies

As of the 26th May 2011, UK law basically requires that nothing be stored on a vistor's computer unless/until that visitor has explicitly granted permission. This affects the cookie(s) that we use to (a) enhance the User experience of the site, and (b) facilitate a secure login.

If you have not previously given permission for us to place cookies on your computer, or a previous permission is no longer valid (has expired), then you will be asked to accept our cookies. Until you grant permission, no cookies will be set on your computer. If you choose not to grant permission, then you will not be able to login (assuming you are eligible to!) and some features of the public pages may be either inaccessible or not work as intended.

The cookies we use are:

  1. Name : WOOJUMSessionId

    A session cookie.

This holds a session identifier that the web server uses to identify you as a unique visitor to our site. It (the web server) may hold some choices you have made on the site, such as the sort order of Timeline events, or your preferred presentation theme. If you successfully login, it will also store the fact that you (specifically) are logged in, and will then manage and control your subsequent actions/requests accordingly.

This cookie does not use or transmit any information from or about your computer, and is valid only for the duration of the browser session (ie. until your close your browser).

  2. Name : WOOJUM_AcceptCookies

A temporary or persistent cookie (depending on which permission you give).

This holds a text value of 'Yes' and is simply used to indicate to us that you have granted permission for us to place cookies on your computer. When you are asked for permission, you are given the choice of setting the term of that permission to be either for the duration of the current session (ie. until your close your browser), or for 1 year (so that you can avoid having to repeatedly grant permission on repeat visits).

This cookie does not use or transmit any information from or about your computer, and is valid for the duration that you set.

Note that cookies are not only computer-specific but also browser-specific. This means that permission granted when visiting our site in, say, Internet Explorer, will not be valid should you then choose to revisit the site using a different browser.

Also, since our cookies are entirely benign, we do not provide a mechanism for revoking a longer term permission once it has been granted. However, most modern browsers provide a means by which cookies can be deleted, and you should check your browser settings/options if you decide that you need to remove any cookies.

Lastly - still on the subject of browsers - most modern browsers have the ability to switch off their acceptance of cookies, possibly even selectively by web site; however, the current default setting for this option is likely to be 'accept all cookies'. Even if you have deliberately left or set this option at 'accept', it is deemed to be implicit permission for a site to place cookies, whereas UK law now requires that sites gain explicit permission. Should you choose to set your browser to refuse our cookies then we regret that you will be unable to reap the full benefits from our site.

Offsite Links

Our public pages may show links to other websites. We do not accept responsibility for the content or availability of those sites.

You may include links to other websites in your content. We do not accept responsibility for the content or availability of those sites, or for any links you have set up to other websites which do not work because you have set them up incorrectly.

Frequently Asked Questions

We have tried to be as comprehensive as we can in putting together this list but we don't pretend to be all-seeing or all-knowing. If you can't find the answer - or even the question - below please use our Contact Us form to ask your question - that will help us to improve this Page.

About......

Prices

What does it cost to open a Woojum™ Account?

Prices start at as little as £12 per annum, depending on the type of Package you want. Full details of the Packages on offer and the cost per annum for each are shown on our Pricing Page.

Can I try out Woojum™ before committing to a paid-for Package?

As often as we can, we offer Free Trial Packages. When this offer is open it is prominently advertised on our Home Page. Free Trial Packages are limited in number and we cannot guarantee that everybody who applies for one will be successful.

What does Extras mean?

You can choose to add more Timelines, Events, or Media files to your existing allocation, or you can buy a Public Flag to apply to an existing Private Timeline. We call this "Buying Extras". Full details of the Extras you can buy are shown on our Pricing Page.

What does Upgrade mean?

Simply, it means increasing the facilities you get by converting from one Package to another. For example, you might have a Guest Account. You've looked at the Timelines you have been Invited to view and you like what you see, so now you want to set up Timeline(s) of your own. To do that you need to Upgrade your Account.

Subscription Payments

How will I know when I need to renew my Package Subscription?

There are two ways. Firstly, if you check your Settings page you will see the Created Date for your Account. Secondly, we will send you an automatic email when your Account is within XX number of days of expiry to remind you to make the necessary renewal payment.

Why don't you just automatically take a renewal payment when my Package Subcription is due for renewal?

There are two reasons. Firstly, we don't hold your credit/debit card details. For your security these are only shared between you and our offsite Secure Payment Processor, PayPal. Secondly, although we want you to stay with us and we are happy to remind you when your Package Subscription is coming up to renewal date, we have had some really frustrating experiences with the "automatic renewal fairies" ourselves in the past and we wouldn't wish them onto anybody else!

If I cancel my Account will my Package Subscription be refunded?

No, in the normal course of events we do not give refunds. However, we are willing to consider your case if you advise us before you have set up any Timelines and/or Events or uploaded any Media files. If you find yourself in that situation please use our Contact Us Page to let us know.

Accounts

How long will it take to set up my Account?

Just a few minutes. You need to give us a bit of information about yourself, read and accept our Terms & Conditions, select the type of Package you want, and make a payment via PayPal.

Why do you ask me to input my email address twice?

Just in case you mistyped it the first time. If the two inputs you make are different you will see an Error Message and will be able to make sure that we get the correct address. If we don't make sure that we have the correct email address you will not receive important messages confirming that your Account is ready for use etc!

I have made my PayPal payment. How long will it be before I can get started?

We have to wait until PayPal informs us that your payment has been credited to our Account. After that we set up your Account as quickly as we possibly can, and we email you to confirm that it is ready for use. If you have not received an email confirmation within 48 hours of making your payment to PayPal please Contact Us so that we can resolve any problems which might have occurred.

Can I have more than one Account?

Yes, but you will need a separate email address for each Acount you open.

I have tried to set up two Accounts using the same email address. Why can't I do this?

We use your email address to uniquely identify your Account and monitor information about usage, payments etc, so we cannot allow you to set up more than one Account using the same email address. Many organisations such as Google will give you email accounts for free, so we suggest you might want to use any available facilities to obtain an additional email address so that you can open another Account.

How will I know when I need to renew my Package Subscription?

There are two ways. Firstly, if you check your Settings page you will see the Created Date for your Account. Secondly, we will send you an automatic email when your Account is within XX number of days of expiry to remind you to make the necessary renewal payment.

I have changed my email address. What do I need to do?

Login as usual using the "old" email address then go to the Settings screen where you will be able to change your email address.

Can I transfer my Account and Package in its entirety to somebody else?

You can effectively do this just by changing the information in the Settings page, if that is your wish.

How do I cancel my Account?

Your Account will expire automatically if you simply don't renew it. As soon as your Subscription payment becomes overdue by more than 90 calendar days your Account and all of its associated content will be permanently, non-recoverably deleted.

Payments

What does it cost to open a Woojum™ Account?

This depends on the type of Package you want. Full details of the Packages on offer and the cost per annum for each are shown on our Pricing Page.

Is my payment secure?

Yes. Your payment is made offsite via our external Secure Payments Processor, PayPal.

Can I pay you direct?

No. We only accept payments via our PayPal Account.

Packages

  • From Platinum to Titanium

If my Package can't be Upgraded how can I increase the number of Timelines, Events or Media files I am allowed?

You can purchase what we call "Extras", which are single Timelines, single Public Flags, and a choice of blocks of Events and/or Media files. Full details of these and what you will be charged for them per annum are shown on our Pricing Page.

Logging In

I have changed my email address. What should I do?

Select the Settings button from your Toolbar. You can change your Email Address from there.

I want to change my Password. How do I do that?

Select the Settings button from your Toolbar. You can change your Password from there.

I have forgotten my Password. What should I do?

Check the "I've forgotten my password" box on the Login Page and click the Submit button. This will send us a message. We will then send you an email with a temporary password you can use to Login. You should then go to your Settings Page and change this password to one of your choice.

Getting Started

Where else can I get help?

We have provided a set of "Quickstart" guides in pdf format which you can open or download from our Quickstart Page.

Timelines

Can I have more than one Timeline?

Yes. If you choose a Gold or Titanium Package you will have 4 Timelines and you will be able to get more if you need them by purchasing Extras. If you choose a Silver or Platinum Package you will only have 1 Timeline but you can get more by either Upgrading to a Gold or Titanium Package or purchasing Extras. Full details of the Packages and Upgrade options are shown on our Pricing Page.

In the Extras Tariff, what is a "Public Flag"?

It is an Extra which is used to make a Private Timeline into a Public one.

How many Events can I add to any single year in a Timeline?

There is nothing to physically prevent you from adding as many as you like, up to the full number available in your Package.

Can I hide an entire Timeline whilst I give it a revamp?

Yes. In your Personal Timelines Dropdown, click the Green Cross (Published) Icon next to the Timeline you want to hide. The Green Cross will then be replaced by a Red (Unpublished) one. When you have finished your revamp just click the Red Cross to turn it back to Green and republish your Timeline.

How far back in time do the World Timelines go?

All of the World Timelines start in 1940.

How are World Events chosen?

Our administrators monitor the news and select the Events which seem the most appropriate in the various Categories offered in Woojum™.

Why is there no World Event for the current year yet?

Not all of the most important Events happen right at the beginning of the year! We try to wait for a major Event rather than setting up an early Event then finding that we need to change it later in the year.

Events

Can I set up an Event if I don't have any Media files to go with it?

Absolutely, yes. We don't all have Images or Movie clips of the important Events in our lives and there is nothing to stop you just writing about them - you don't have to attach Media files.

I have added an Event to my Timeline but nobody apart from me can see it. What's wrong?

You probably just forgot to Publish it. To check, Login in and look at the Timeline in question. If your new Event's text description is all red and there is a Red Cross Icon to its right, above the Pencil (Edit) Icon just click on the Red Cross. The text description will change to black and the Red Cross will be replaced by a Green Tick, so you can be sure your Event is Published and people should be able to see it.

I have used up my Package's allowance of Events but I don't want to delete any. Can I get an extra allowance?

Yes. Just go to your Settings page - you can purchase Extras from there.

Media

What exactly do you mean by "Media"?

"Media" means Images and Movie clips.

What types of Media file can I upload?

You can upload Image files of types .jpg, .jpeg, .gif, or .png, and Movie clips of types .avi, .flv, .mov, .mp3,.mp4, .mpg, .mpeg, or .swf.

What is the maximum Image file size I can upload?

1Mb.

What is the maximum Image pixel size I can upload?

There is no restriction on Image uploads by pixel size, but any images which have a maximum dimension (ie width or height) which is more than 1000px will be reduced automatically to 1000px.

Do I have to create my own Thumbnail sized Images?

No. Don't waste your time. Just upload your full size Images and Woojum™ will automatically create the Thumbnails for you.

Can I use the same Image in more than one Event?

Yes, you can. When you open an Event all of your Media files are shown in the Media Manager displayed on the right hand side of your screen. Just select the one(s) you want to add to the Event by clicking the Green Arrow Icon beneath them.

The Settings screen shows that my Current Usage of Media files is higher than I think it is. Why might that be?

Perhaps you have Deleted Media files from some of your Events, but not Deleted them from the Media Manager. Click the Media button in your Toolbar to open your Media Manager and check. If you want to completely Delete some of your Media files to make room to upload some new ones you can do so from the Media Manager.

I have used up my Package's allowance of Media files but I don't want to delete any. Can I get an extra allowance?

Yes. Just go to your Settings page - you can purchase Extras from there.

Guests

Who can see my Timeline?

Public Timelines can be seen by anybody, whether or not they have a Woojum™ Login. Private Timelines can only be seen by their owner, anybody their owner has Invited as a Guest, and anybody their owner has granted Links to.

What is a Guest?

A Guest is somebody you have personally Invited to view your Timeline. You do this via the Views Button in your Toolbar. These Guests have their own User Ids and Passwords and can Login to see your Timeline on a view only basis; they cannot make any changes to it.

How do I Invite Guests?

You do this from the Views button on your Toolbar once you have Logged in. Inviting Guests is easy. You can find instructions in our Quickstart Documents.

How many Guests can I Invite?

If you have a Silver or Platinum Package you can have up to 5 Invited Guests at any given time. If you have a Gold or Titanium Package you can have up to 20 Invited Guests at any given time.

Do my Guests have to pay a Package Subscription?

No. There is no charge for Accounts which are Guest only. Your Guests will only have to pay a Subscription if they choose to Upgrade to a paid-for Package so as to be able to set up Timelines of their own.

One of my Guests has changed his/her email address. Do I need to Invite him/her again?

No. Ask your Guest to login as usual and go to the Settings page where they will be able to change their email address.

I have more than one Timeline in my Package and I want to Invite different Guests to be able to see different Timelines. How do I do that?

In your Manage Invitations screen when you create each Invitation just be careful to open the Dropdown list of Timelines and select the correct Timeline for each Guest you create an Invitation for.

Is it easy for my Guests to Upgrade their Accounts to have Packages of their own?

Yes. They just need to login as usual and go to their Settings page where they will be able to select an Upgrade.

One of my Guests is trying to set up a Package of their own but is getting an Error Message saying "Duplicate email Address". Why?

What is probably happening is that your Guest is trying to set up a new Account from scratch rather than Upgrading the Account they already hold as a Guest. Ask them to login as usual and go to the Settings page where they will be able to select an Upgrade.

I am already a Guest of one of my friends. Do I need another email address if somebody else wants to Invite me?

No, absolutely not. You can be a Guest visitor to many Timelines using just a single email address. When you receive each Invitation just follow the Link it contains and Login using your existing User Id and Password. The new Timeline you have been Invited to as a Guest will be shown in your Personal Timelines Dropdown list, from where you can click to open it.

Is a Guest Account just temporary? So I am limited to how many times I can view a Timeline I am Invited to?

Not at all. All of the Timelines you have Guest access to will be shown in your Personal Timelines Dropdown list until either the person who Invited you deliberately Revokes your Invitation, or you choose to deliberately Delete them.

Linked Timelines

Who can see my Timeline?

Public Timelines can be seen by anybody, whether or not they have a Woojum™ Login. Private Timelines can only be seen by their owner, anybody their owner has Invited as a Guest, and anybody their owner has granted Links to.

What is a Link?

Literally, it is a Button displayed in an Event which, when clicked, takes you from the Timeline you are currently looking at to another Timeline. You create Links via the Links Button in your Toolbar. These Links can then be clicked and followed by people who have access to your Timeline. Linked Timelines can be seen on a view only basis.

Are there different sorts of Links?

Yes. There are 2 sorts, which are Internal Links and External Links, and they are set up in different ways. Internal Links are Links between Timelines in your own Package, which you don't need anybody's permission to set up. External Links are Links between Timelines in your Package and Timelines in somebody else's Package, which you need to get their permission to set up. You can find instructions in our Quickstart Documents.

How do I create Links?

You do this from the Links button on your Toolbar once you have Logged in. Linking is easy, you can find instructions in our Quickstart Documents.

How many Links can I set up?

There is no restriction on the number of Links you can set up.

I have more than one Timeline in my Package and I want to request different External Links from each of them. Can do I do that?

Yes, certainly. In your Manage Links screen when you create each Link Request just be careful to open the Dropdown list of Timelines and select the correct Timeline for each Link Request you create.

My Timeline is Private. If I allow a Link to it from my friend's Public Timeline will just anybody be able to see my Timeline?

No. Our key concern is to respect people's privacy. Members of the general public who visit a Public Timeline can only see Links from it to other Public Timelines, not to Private ones.

My Timeline is Public. If I create a Link from it to a Private Timeline will just anybody be able to see the Private Timeline?

No. Our key concern is to respect people's privacy. Members of the general public who visit a Public Timeline can only see Links from it to other Public Timelines, not to Private ones.
